Selection is carried out in two stages:

  • The first stage includes the selection of foreign citizens in the territory of a foreign country for admission to training (hereinafter-candidates);
  • The second stage of selection is carried out by the Russian educational organizations ready to accept for training of foreign citizens from among the candidates selected at the first stage

The first stage of selection includes:

  • collection of information about foreign citizens who have expressed a desire to study in the Russian Federation. A foreign citizen has the right to use access to the electronic form of collecting documents http://russia.study/ (registration required) and submit the documents that the candidate must have to participate in the second stage of selection, in the proper quality directly in the specified system. The documents placed in such a system are subject to review by a single operator for selection in a foreign country.
  • Foreign citizens who have expressed a desire to study in the Russian Federation and submitted documents are invited by a single operator for selection in a foreign country to participate in the qualifying tests (notified of the date, time, place and conditions of the specific qualifying tests).

The second stage of selection includes:

  • The Ministry of education and science of the Russian Federation considers the list of candidates who have expressed a desire to study in the relevant educational institutions, and their documents for compliance with the established requirements.
  • The Ministry of education and science of the Russian Federation shall bring to the attention of educational institutions ready to accept foreign citizens, lists of candidates who have expressed a desire to study in the relevant educational institutions, and their documents. Selection of candidates at the second stage of selection is carried out by educational organizations (with the participation of the Ministry of education and science of Russia, through the information system http://www.russia-edu.ru/) within the prescribed period.
  • If the level of knowledge of the Russian language of the candidate is insufficient for the development of the basic educational program in Russian, such a candidate is sent to the Ministry of education and science of Russia for training at the preparatory faculty.

Foreign citizens are paid an academic scholarship. Foreign citizens who do not have sufficient knowledge of the Russian language study at preparatory departments, preparatory faculties, providing training for the development of basic educational programs in Russian with the payment of scholarships (during the entire period of study, regardless of academic success). The term of study at the preparatory faculty is one academic year and is not included in the period of study on the basic educational programs.

Step 1. Register on http://russia.study and choose the right program.

Step 2. Fill in the form in your account and the application to the University

In the personal account, click the "Edit" button and fill in all the fields of the questionnaire. Do not forget to download a photo, a copy of your passport and a document of graduation. Leave your phone number so the staff can contact you!

Edit your application, indicating the form of education and the level of education that you want to get in Russia.

If you do not have confidence in your level of Russian language, enroll in the preparatory faculty (for this it is necessary to note 27 point in the application).

Step 3. Send an application and wait for a response from the representatives of the Ministry of Education and science.

Step 4. Participate in the selection process

In order to get a quota (scholarship) to study in Russia for free, you need to pass a competitive selection in your country. To do this, click "Submit application" and contact The Russian center of science and culture or the Russian Embassy in your country to find out the terms and conditions of selection. You will be included in the list of participants of the competitive selection and will be informed about the nearest selection procedure.

Step 5. Get a student visa and come to Russia!

Most foreign students need a passport and a study visa to study in Russia. Study visa is issued at the Embassy (consular section) or Consulate of Russia.

Once you receive an invitation or see on the website russia-edu.ru that it is delivered to your country, you must collect the documents and personally contact the Embassy (consular Department) of Russia.
